Constellation Energy to Implement Initiative to Reduce
Energy Usage at University's Horn Point Laboratory Complex by 15
Percent
BALTIMORE, Apr 16, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Constellation
Energy (NYSE:CEG) announced today that its subsidiary,
Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group has been
selected to implement energy and cost saving projects at the
University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES)
Horn Point Laboratory. The initiative is expected to reduce
energy usage by 15 percent and result in nearly $5 million in
energy cost savings over 20 years through upgrades to water and
energy infrastructure systems, energy efficient lighting, and
insulation improvements in multiple buildings on the Horn Point
Laboratory campus.
"As a premier center for research on the Chesapeake Bay and
aquatic ecosystems, the UMCES Horn Point Laboratory is proud to
take a leadership role in reducing energy usage at levels that
can make a meaningful impact on the environment," said Horn
Point Laboratory Director Dr. Michael Roman.
Energy saved by the Horn Point Laboratory will reduce the
carbon dioxide emissions of the campus by 2,090 tons annually.
The Horn Point Laboratory, a center for research on wetlands,
estuarine and oceanic waters, is located in Cambridge, Md. on
the banks of the Choptank River, a tributary of the Chesapeake
Bay.
The initiative will be financed through an energy performance
contract which funds infrastructure upgrades through the
guaranteed cost savings created by the improvements themselves,
a financing structure approved by the Maryland Board of Public
Works and State Treasurer's Office. First year energy and
operational savings for the Horn Point Laboratory are expected
to total $219,000.
"Through this energy conservation initiative, the University
of Maryland Center for Environmental Science is simultaneously
focused on significantly reducing its carbon footprint, and
making environmental improvements in a fiscally responsible
manner that actually will result in savings for taxpayers and
the university," said Greg Jarosinski, president of
Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group. "Constellation
Energy is committed to helping universities take a lead role in
meeting their climate commitments."
This initiative is part of the University System of
Maryland's Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change
Initiative, and UMCES's adoption of the American College and
University Presidents Climate Commitment to reduce energy
consumption. The energy conservation work taking place at the
Horn Point Laboratory also contributes to the state's EmPOWER
Maryland program, which seeks to reduce statewide consumption of
energy by 15 percent by 2015.
Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group is one of
five companies pre-approved by the state of Maryland to provide
energy services.

Energy Services
Developer Accepted to the New Jersey Clean Energy Pay for
Performance Program
BALTIMORE, March 26, 2009 – Constellation
Energy’s Projects & Services Group announced today that it has
been selected to improve the energy efficiency of commercial and
industrial buildings in New Jersey through the state’s Clean
Energy Pay for Performance Program. Through the program,
Constellation Energy’s Projects & Services Group will guide
businesses through a process to audit and benchmark current
power usage and create energy reduction plans. The company will
also develop specific energy saving projects for customers and
then measure and verify those savings over the long-term.
“New Jersey is moving toward a more
sustainable energy future by seizing the opportunity to make
buildings in the state more efficient users of power,” said Greg
Jarosinski, president of Constellation Energy’s Projects &
Services Group. “There are enormous strides to be made by simply
modernizing aging infrastructure, improving insulation, updating
lighting, and taking advantage of a new generation of energy
efficient technologies and materials—all services provided by
Constellation Energy’s Projects & Services Group.”
The New Jersey Clean Energy Pay for
Performance Program offers financial incentives up to $1 million
to buildings with annual peak electricity demand of 200
kilowatts or more that can achieve a 15 percent reduction in
total energy consumption.
Constellation Energy’s Projects & Services
Group has a portfolio of more than 4,000 energy projects
designed to increase efficiency, reliability, cost effectiveness
and savings from customers’ energy infrastructure. For more
than 25 years, Constellation Energy’s Projects & Services Group
has utilized the “pay for performance” financial model,
eliminating upfront energy project costs and funding initiatives
through the long-term savings created by guaranteed reductions
in overall power consumption. The company is also a major
developer of renewable energy projects, and has installed 5
megawatts of clean, renewable solar power systems for customers
in five states, including New Jersey.

BALTIMORE, Feb. 23, 2009 – Constellation Energy’s Projects &
Services Group announced today that it has been awarded an
Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) by the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers, Huntsville, Ala. The ESPC enables
Constellation Energy’s Projects & Services Group to continue to
conduct energy efficiency, renewable energy and water
conservation projects at U.S. military facilities and other
government installations. This is the second ESPC awarded to the
company in recent months. Constellation Energy’s Projects &
Services Group has also been named as an approved ESPC provider
for federal sites by the U.S. Department of Energy.
“We have been developing energy services projects at U.S.
military facilities and other federal sites since the inception
of the first energy savings performance contracting programs,
and we are pleased to continue the important work of making U.S.
installations more efficient and sustainable,” said Greg
Jarosinski, president of Constellation Energy’s Projects &
Services Group.
Under an ESPC, Constellation Energy’s Projects & Services
Group designs, constructs and obtains the necessary financing
for an energy savings project, and the federal agency makes
payments over time from the energy cost reductions. The
structure enables federal customers to undertake larger, more
comprehensive energy conservation projects, while ensuring that
results are guaranteed and monitored over a long-term.
ESPCs also enable military and federal facilities to utilize
renewable energy technologies, an area of particular focus for
the business, which has a renewable project portfolio that
includes solar, wind, geothermal and biomass. The company has
completed installation of approximately 5 megawatts of on-site
solar power systems for customers throughout the U.S., and has
also deployed more than 30 geothermal projects that deliver
nearly 12,000 tons of cooling capacity.
