Constellation Energy Projects &
Services Group was founded in 1983 as Baltimore Biogas to serve
the natural gas needs of large commercial and industrial
customers in the Baltimore Gas & Electric (BG&E) service area.
In 1994, the company changed its name
to Baltimore Natural Gas (BNG) and began geographically
expanding retail gas commodity operations.
Also in 1994, a separate group – BG&E
Energy Projects & Services – was formed to focus on integrated
project contracting, specializing in energy services and power
quality solutions for the commercial, industrial and
governmental markets. The formation of this subsidiary enabled
BGE to streamline expertise and talent to more clearly focus on
the growing demands of these market segments.
In 1997, BNG changed its name to
Constellation Energy Source
In 1998, BG&E Energy Projects &
Services was merged into Constellation Energy Source.
In 2004, Constellation Energy Source
changed its name to Constellation Energy Projects & Services
Group (CEPS) to more accurately reflect the current business
model.
CEPS has continued to grow its energy
services business by acquiring Cogenex (an energy service
efficiency company founded in 1983 as Citizens Heat and Power
Corp.), Energy Performance Services (a Philadelphia based energy
services company founded in 1986) as well as Water & Energy
Savings Company (a Florida-based water and energy savings
company with expertise in public housing authorities).
These acquisitions, in 2005 and 2008
respectively, have greatly expanded CEPS’s geographic and
technical capabilities in the energy consulting, performance
contracting, on-site energy assets and renewable energy markets.
CEPS remains a wholly-owned subsidiary of Constellation Energy
(NYSE: CEG). |
